Katt's Korner: Day 2

Welcome to my blog.

Let me tell you a little about myself. I'm a mother and grandmother - 1 daughter, 2 sons. I've recently acquired an additional grandson and, finally!, a granddaughter thru a 'significant other' relationship by my youngest son.

I love crafting and consider myself an artist. To me, a craftperson is someone who does an excellent job using someone else's ideas - s/he can follow instructions, use a pattern, etc., but doesn't try to do something different, something of their own. An artist, on the other hand, can not only follow someone else's patterns and instructions, so long as those instructions are correctly written and result in the item they are supposed to create, but also can take their own ideas and create them. Maybe not in all mediums, but at in at least one medium, an artist can take their basic knowledge and create something new, something that, without them, would not have existed.

My handcraft interests are eclectic (that's a nice way to say I'm more-or-less a 'Jill of all trades' ). Among my interests are knitting, crocheting, artist trading cards (or ATCs), sewing (modern clothing, medieval clothing, 'toys' ... such as dragons), polymer clay, bead work (using glass seed beads, mostly).

Around here, books are valuable and well-loved friends. While I love Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb, my favorite genre is fantasy. Among my favorite authors: Terry Brooks, Piers Anthony, Mercedes Lackey, Marion Zimmer-Bradley, Anne McCaffrey. On the other hand, if you've never read Dorothy Gilman's Mrs. Pollifax series, you're missing a wonderful reading experience. Mysteries are my second favorite book type.

Harry Potter, of course, rules the roost. Magic, wizards and dragons. Good (eventually) beating evil. And a rousing good storyline along the way! What more could you ask for?

Day 2

Well, I've nearly finished the second dragon from the pattern I purchased at smallworks.com (Kell's Dragon). This pattern is awesome!!! The dragons are 4 feet long from nose tip to tail tip and completely pose-able because there is a 1/8" covered wire from nose to tail. The wings and legs are attached with buttons (the pattern calls for self-covered buttons so they don't show but so far I've used specialty buttons which accent the dragon). By attaching these parts with buttons you can move the wings and legs to various positions. After I finish making the dragons that have been requested by family members, I hope to create some for sale, possibly on E-bay. They take over 30 hours to create, not counting the cost of the pattern and the fabric/supplies required for each one, so they won't be cheap. But hopefully there will be enough dragon lovers out there to make the effort worthwhile.
